I believe that environmental sustainability is everyone’s responsibility. I try to look for ways in which I personally can reduce my environmental footprint and how I can do so in my classroom. For example, I regularly look for materials around campus which can be repurposed for Design projects. By doing this I did not need to purchase any wood for two years. I think there are relatively easy changes we could all make to reduce our environmental impact. Washing cars less often, composting organic waste, using reusable water bottles and shopping bags, as well as using LED lightbulbs are just some examples. One goal I hope to someday realise is to create a student led plastics recycling centre. It would use open source designs from Precious Plastics to recycle plastic bottles into plastic sheets and 3D printing filament.
